In 2022, Nagareyama City recorded Japan’s highest municipal population growth rate for the sixth consecutive year. In SUUMO’s 2022 ranking of desirable places to live in Greater Tokyo, Nagareyama-Otakanomori Station rose from 39th the previous year to 16th, also taking first place in the biggest-climbers ranking for towns and stations.

Meet your guide, Kotaka
Hello! I’m Kotaka, the person behind Otakanomori Pedia.
I have lived in Ichinoya Forest since 2010—more than 15 years now. I have watched this town change since the days when Nagareyama Otakanomori S.C. and just a scattering of apartment buildings stood around the station.
By day, I work in the design industry and commute to Tokyo on the Tsukuba Express. My workdays stretch from early morning to nearly the last train—an old-school routine. The town has moved with the times; my working habits, apparently, are in mint vintage condition.
Thinking there had to be more to life than work, I started this blog in 2022. At weekends, I become the town’s concierge, sharing firsthand experiences of food, events and everyday life—including ideas for anyone considering a move here.
I hope to share this town with readers across Japan and around the world. Thank you for coming along!
Kotaka’s dream
My dream is to introduce wonderful Nagareyama to more people—and become a rather stylish concierge known around the world!
One day, I quietly hope to become an official mascot of Nagareyama City. I do feel a little rivalry with the goshawk, or “ootaka.” I admit it looks magnificent in flight, but it can’t have the town’s spotlight all to itself.
It’s not that I can’t fly, you know. It’s just that my restaurant research has started showing around the middle. The more of this town I discover, the harder it gets to take off.
I don’t have an official title yet. For now, I want to be the guide who makes you think, “For Nagareyama, ask Kotaka.” Time for another walk around town!

My address is the third camphor tree in Ichinoya Forest. The only difficulty is that, depending on where you start counting, you might end up at someone else’s house.
My pride and joy? A forest view from every room. In other words, leaves whichever way you look.
This is my base as I work toward becoming a world-famous concierge. At least in my own home, let me dream big!
The idea behind our “Tree of Happiness”
Our logo is inspired by a “Tree of Happiness.” Its tree motif brings together the rich natural setting where goshawks live and the pleasures of Nagareyama-Otakanomori—shopping, food, films, hot springs and more.
